Caring for Vivid Hair Colors

Vivid hair colors are one of our favorite services to perform.

We love the creative and artistic freedom they bring to us and our guests wearing them.

If you are getting or wanting vivid hair color here are our top tips to keep your color bright!

Shampooing/Conditioning

The first step in caring for your beautiful new color is making sure you have the right products. A gentle, sulfate, and paraben free shampoo and conditioner is a must. We love and use Virtue Recovery! To extend the life of your color, limit your washes to only when absolutely needed.

The next, and most crucial step, is using COLD water. This will help ensure fading is minimal. Cold water is vital to the life of your color. Follow your shampoo with a hydrating conditioner but, remember, keep the conditioner on the mids and and ends only!

Heat Styling

Remember that vivid colors are sensitive to heat so, keep the heat styling as minimal as possible. When heat styling is necessary, make sure you’re using a heat protectant every time. If you don’t have a heat protectant, refer to our Instagram post “Which Heat Protectant is Right For You”.

Summer

If swimming, regardless of where, try to keep your hair our of the water. Chlorine from pools, the salts in the ocean water, and minerals in lake water can all strip and fade vivid colors. If you must submerge your hair use filtered or bottled water to soak your hair prior to swimming. For added protection apply a leave in conditioner on top of your damp hair for an extra barrier between your hair and the water!

Upkeep

Remembering that vivid colors do fade faster than traditional colors, ask your stylist how often you should come in for a refresher appointment. Getting on a schedule will ensure you’re able to enjoy your hair without stress of booking a last minute appointment.

Finally, enjoy your hair’s journey! As it fades, it’ll turn lighter and more pastel versions of itself. It’s beautiful in it’s own right!
